RE: [Handle-info] Approaches to handle names
On a purely *syntactic* level you might like to give sconsideration to
the application environments in which the handle will be exposed.
From our experience with DOI one publisher made use of the legacy
identifier SICI for their suffix string, with a couple interesting
quirks:
1. Includes "<", ">", "&" - not great for XML
2. Can include mod37 checksum char "#" - not great for URLs
3. Also includes this char set many not supported by URI syntax:
CHARS = DIGIT / UPPER /
"&" / "'" / "*" / "\" / "}" / ")" / "]" / "," / "@" / "$" /
"=" / "!" / "-" / "#" / "{" / "(" / "[" / "%" / "." / "+" /
"?" / '"' / ";" / "/" / "^" / "`" / "~" / "_" / "|"
Cheers,
Tony
