All sorry for sending out this false alarm.  UNC redirection does work.

I just realized that the UNC I am trying to get to is restricted, and 
while my browser can get because I authenticated via the network login, 
the proxy server is not.  Humm.  Can anyone guess what I'll be asking 
next?  Whats the work around for this?
